Infrared Yoga in Ann Arbor

A Different Kind of Heated Yoga Experience

At Ita Yoga Studio, we use far infrared heat to create a warm, comfortable environment that complements the practice rather than becoming the focus of it.

Most heated classes reach approximately 90°F, creating warmth that supports movement while allowing you to stay connected to your breath, your body, and the experience of the class.

The goal is not to see how much heat you can tolerate.

The goal is to create an environment where you can move, focus, release tension, and settle more fully into your practice.

What Is Far Infrared Heat?

Far infrared is a form of radiant heat.

Unlike conventional heating systems that primarily warm the surrounding air, infrared heaters emit radiant energy that warms people and surfaces within the room.

This creates a different feeling from the intense, heavy heat many people associate with traditional hot yoga.

At IYS, infrared heat is used to create a consistent warmth throughout the practice while keeping the emphasis where it belongs: on movement, breath, awareness, and how you feel in your body.

Why We Use Infrared Heat

Warmth can change the way a yoga practice feels.

For many students, practicing in a comfortably heated room makes it easier to settle into movement, feel connected to the body, and gradually work through stiffness.

The warmth can also create a more immersive experience—helping you shift your attention away from the day and into the practice in front of you.

At IYS, infrared heat is simply one part of the environment we create.

It does not replace good instruction, thoughtful sequencing, or listening to your body.

Warm — Not Overwhelming

IYS is not about extreme heat.

Most of our heated classes are practiced at approximately 90°F, which allows the room to feel warm without making temperature the challenge of the class.

The intensity of your experience comes primarily from the style of practice you choose.

Some classes are slower and more grounding.

Others are stronger and more dynamic.

The heat supports the experience without defining it.

What You May Notice

Every person responds to heat differently, but students commonly notice:

  • A warmer feeling in the muscles and body as class progresses

  • Greater ease settling into movement

  • Increased perspiration

  • A strong sense of focus and presence

  • A feeling of physical and mental release by the end of class

The experience is individual, which is why we encourage every student to work at their own pace and pay attention to what their body is telling them.

Infrared Heat Is Not the Practice

The yoga still comes first.

A well-designed class should give you more than heat and movement.

At IYS, every class is fully guided and intentionally sequenced to help you build strength, improve mobility, develop awareness, and create space to release from the demands of the day.

Infrared heat helps create the environment.

The practice is what you do within it.

New to Heated Yoga?

You do not need prior experience with heated yoga to take class at IYS.

If you are new, we recommend:

  • Arriving well hydrated

  • Bringing a water bottle with a closed lid

  • Bringing a towel

  • Wearing comfortable clothing you can move in

  • Choosing a class appropriate for your experience

  • Taking breaks whenever you need them

  • Listening to your body throughout class

If you feel lightheaded, overheated, or unwell at any point, stop, rest, and take care of yourself.

You are here to take care of you.

Find the Right Class

The amount of physical intensity varies by class style.

Whether you are looking for a slower, grounding practice or a stronger flow, you can choose the experience that best fits what you need that day.
