The IYS Method

Teacher Training & Certification Program

Learn to teach with confidence. Practice with purpose. Lead with authenticity.

The IYS Method is a comprehensive teacher training experience for dedicated yoga practitioners ready to deepen their understanding of yoga and develop the skills to teach with clarity, confidence, and integrity.

Developed through two decades of full-time teaching and more than sixteen years of leading Ita Yoga Studio, the program emphasizes practical application, intelligent movement, effective communication, and learning how to teach real people with real bodies.

Whether your goal is to become a yoga teacher or deepen your personal practice, The IYS Method offers an immersive, hands-on learning experience in a small-group setting with individualized instruction and feedback throughout the training.

What You'll Learn

The IYS Method goes beyond learning poses and memorizing sequences. Participants develop a practical understanding of how yoga works, how bodies move, and how to communicate that information effectively.

Training includes:

  • Functional anatomy

  • Alignment principles

  • Purpose and application of yoga postures

  • Intelligent sequencing

  • Teaching methodology

  • Observation and verbal cueing

  • Hands-on assisting principles

  • Breathwork / Pranayama

  • Meditation

  • Yoga philosophy in a modern, practical context

  • Ethics and professionalism

  • Practice teaching with instructor feedback

  • Developing your authentic teaching voice

The goal is not to create teachers who all teach the same way. It is to give you the knowledge, tools, and experience to teach thoughtfully and confidently while developing a voice that feels authentic to you.

Learn From Experience

Training Led by Ita Reyes

Ita has taught yoga full time for nearly two decades and has owned and led Ita Yoga Studio since 2010.

Her experience includes teaching beginners, experienced practitioners, young athletes, collegiate athletes, professional athletes, and developing yoga teachers through multiple teacher-training programs.

Teaching is at the heart of Ita’s work. Her approach combines intelligent movement, clear communication, practical application, and the ability to adapt yoga to the person in front of her.

The IYS Method reflects that experience—what has been learned not only through study, but through thousands of hours spent actually teaching.

An Intensive Training Designed for Real Life

Deep study requires commitment, but life continues outside the training room.

The IYS Method was intentionally structured as an intensive program that allows participants to immerse themselves in their education while continuing to balance work, family, and everyday responsibilities.

Each training session begins with a one-hour guided yoga practice, allowing the material being studied to be experienced in the body as well as understood intellectually.

Participants also maintain a regular studio practice throughout the training.

  • Have an established personal yoga practice

  • Are familiar with foundational yoga postures

  • Want to develop the skills to teach yoga confidently

  • Want to deepen their understanding beyond the physical practice

  • Value individual feedback and direct instruction

  • Appreciate learning in a small-group environment

  • Are willing to commit to consistent practice and study throughout the training

You do not need to arrive knowing how to teach.

You do need to arrive ready to learn.

More Than Learning to Lead a Class

The IYS Method is for those who want to teach—and for those who simply want to understand yoga more deeply.

For future teachers, the training develops the skills to observe, communicate clearly, make thoughtful choices, and respond to the people actually standing in front of you.

For dedicated practitioners, it offers a deeper understanding of movement, anatomy, sequencing, philosophy, breath, and the purpose behind the practice.

Whether your goal is to lead a class or deepen your own knowledge, the training is designed to change the way you understand and experience yoga.

A Note About Yoga Alliance

The IYS Method is not currently affiliated with Yoga Alliance. We were previously a registered school and structured our teacher training in accordance with Yoga Alliance’s educational guidelines and professional standards.

Over time, we chose not to continue that affiliation because we did not feel the organization was consistently providing the level of oversight, accountability, and enforcement that its own standards are intended to represent. Yoga Alliance outlines expectations around ethical conduct, professional responsibility, curriculum standards, competency, and accountability for registered teachers and schools. We believe those standards are meaningful—but we also believe standards only have value when they are consistently upheld.

Our decision to remain independent does not mean we abandoned those educational guidelines. The IYS Method continues to follow the same core areas of study that informed our training while we were affiliated, including techniques and practice, anatomy, teaching methodology, yoga philosophy, ethics, professional responsibility, pranayama, meditation, and supervised teaching experience.

Remaining independent allows us to hold the program to the standards we believe matter most: depth of education, practical competency, integrity, accountability, and preparing teachers who are genuinely ready to teach the people in front of them. Please take this into consideration when choosing our program.
